Cotton Court

This custom boutique hotel in Lubbock, Texas was envisioned by Valencia Hotel Group as a property that would blend seamlessly into its surroundings. The design needed to feel timeless, as though the buildings had stood on the site for generations, while evoking the character of a historic cotton processing facility. True to Valencia’s brand, the result is a one of a kind destination unlike any of their other hotels.

The hotel is composed of several individual buildings arranged around a large central courtyard that serves as the heart of the guest experience. The courtyard features a pool with cabanas, outdoor gathering spaces adjacent to the restaurant, a ceremony lawn, a reflecting pool, an exterior fireplace, and a fire pit area. Each structure is built with authentic, durable materials selected to reinforce a sense of permanence. Guestrooms are thoughtfully designed to support the overall architectural narrative rather than stand apart from it. Upon entering the lobby, guests are immediately immersed in the Cotton Court experience, with intuitive connections to the restaurant and guestrooms. The courtyard was intentionally designed to encourage interaction, community, and an elevated outdoor lifestyle.

Mayse & Associates Architects served as the Architect of Record for the project in close collaboration with Rottet Studio, the interior design team. The boutique hotel, featured in the April 2023 issue of Interior Design Magazine, draws inspiration from Lubbock’s rich cotton growing heritage. The result is a cohesive design that artfully integrates elements of rustic farm culture into a warm, authentic, and memorable guest environment.
